Programme for the adaptation of new master degrees to the EHEA

Official postgraduate programmes (POP), implemented as of the 2006-2007 academic year, constitute the first structural overhaul occurring in the Catalan university system to bring it in line with the European Higher Education Area. POP are designed to bring together the postgraduate educational courses on offer in a coherent, flexible and dynamic manner, mainly for masters and PhD programmes. They are determined by the university in accordance with its academic approach in terms of education, and they will include specialisation to a greater or lesser extent, emphasis on the development of research skills and/or professional competence. Accordingly, they include a wide range of complex study programmes with varying profiles: mixed/academic, research-oriented and professionalizing programmes, possibly venturing for a cross-discipline approach to knowledge.

The Directorate-General for Universities (DGU) assigned AQU Catalunya with the task of conducting an assessment ex ante on the academic aspect of the official postgraduate study programmes put forward for academic years 2006-2007 to 2008-2009. The purpose of these assessments was to ensure the quality of POP before they were implemented. Nevertheless, one must bear in mind that, while the appraisal carried out in this process constituted an important factor for the corresponding authorisation, it was not decisive.
