Results of the assessment of the proposals for Master's programmes to be introduced in the 2008-2009 academic year

Sixty-eight (68) out of the seventy-nine (79) proposals for Master's programmes submitted by Catalan universities to be introduced in the 2008-2009 academic year were favourably assessed by the ATP Committee (the AQU committee that assesses the standards of qualifications and programmes). This represents 86% of the total.

50% of the proposals submitted were from the Universitat de Barcelona (26 proposals) and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (20 proposals). In terms of subject area, the highest number of Master's proposals was in the Social Sciences (30 proposals), which accounted for 38% of the total. Between 15 (Humanities) and 11 (Health Sciences, Engineering and Architecture) Master's degree proposals were submitted by the other subject areas.

In the case of proposals unfavourably assessed (13.9% of the total), shortcomings were detected in relation to the competence profile/learning outcomes, the proposal's scientific and professional interest and relevance, the programme's entry profile and criteria, and the teaching staff.

In relation to the evaluation of this call for applications, there was a slight increase in the number of reviewers from outside the Catalan HE system (they accounted for 65% of the total number of reviewers) and a higher number of international experts (17%). For the first time, the review process included an interaction stage with the proposal coordinators in cases where the result of the assessment was conditional, in order to correct and enhance certain aspects of these proposals.
