Start of the 3rd graduate employment survey in Catalonia

The third graduate employment survey of students who graduated from universities in Catalonia in 2003-2004 is being carried out by AQU Catalunya, the social councils of the seven public universities in Catalonia (UB, UAB, UPC, UPF, UdG, UdL and URV), plus the UVic. There are two important new developments in this third survey, the inclusion of the employment situation PhD-holders who were awarded their doctorate in 2003-2004 and the monitoring of graduates in Humanities from 2000-2001.

This third survey is made up of three parts, which have the following aims:

  • Graduates 2003-2004. To analyse the standard of the employment obtained by students graduating in 2003-2004 (except for Medicine, which corresponds to 2000-2001) and the graduates' own appraisal, three years afterwards, of their education and training.
  • PhDs 2003-2004. To analyse the standard of the employment obtained by PhD holders who presented their theses in 2003 and 2004 and their appraisal, three years afterwards, of training received.
  • Monitoring of Humanities 2000-2001. To analyse the standard of the employment obtained by students graduating in Humanities who, in the second survey (2005) were in appropriate employment situations in relation to their education.

With these aims in mind, the reference population consists of 24,880 graduates, of which an anticipated number of 13,500 will be surveyed to ensure the maximum reliability of the results, with proportional quotas being established for studies and universities.

The telephone survey was started half way through January and is expected to be completed at the end of March. Analysis of the data will begin when all of the questionnaires have been completed and sent to the AQU.
