Javier Bará, has, for personal reasons, resigned from his posts as AQU Director and Chairman of the Agency's Quality Assessment Commission, which he has held for more than three years.
During his term of office, and following an external review by an international committee, AQU Catalunya was confirmed as a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). During this time, the Agency was also one of the first three European agencies to be entered in the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR).
The Agency under Bará's leadership was also marked by the setting up of and impetus given to the network of Spanish university quality assurance agencies (REACU) and the close collaboration constantly maintained with the universities in Catalonia and the Universities and Research Commission (Comissionat per a Universitats i Recerca).
In accordance with the AQU statutes, the Agency's director is designated by the incumbent of the corresponding government department with jurisdiction over the universities, on the advice of the Board of Management and at the proposal of the Agency's president, for a period of four years, which can be extended for two extra terms of office.
