The annual timetable set for the ex-ante assessment, modification and monitoring of Bachelor and Master's degrees at Catalan universities

AQU Catalunya has set the annual timetable for the ex-ante assessment, modification and accreditation of recognised programmes during the 2011-2012 academic year, which will be used during the interim period until a definitive timetable is set from 2012-2013 onwards.

2011-2012 academic year:

  • With regard to the ex-ante assessment of Bachelor and Master's programmes, proposals for new degrees must be submitted by universities between 1 October-November 30, 2011, and decisions made by AQU Catalunya at the latest by May 30, 2012. In the case of the ex-ante assessment of new proposals for doctoral programmes, applications must be submitted prior to the end of January 2012, and assessment completed at the latest by July 31, 2012.
  • Modifications to Bachelor and Master's programmes must be submitted either between October 1-November 30, 2011, or, in a second call for submissions, from 1-31 March 2012. The Agency has until January 31, 2012, to render its decisions regarding the first call for submissions and until June 30, 2012, for the second call.
  • University monitoring reports must be submitted to AQU Catalunya prior to March 31, 2012, for evaluation between 1 June-31 July 2012.

2012-2013 academic year:

  • Proposal applications for the ex-ante assessment of Bachelor, Master's and doctorate degrees must be submitted between 1 September-October 31, with evaluation being completed by the Agency by April 30, 2013 at the latest.
  • Modifications to Bachelor and Master's programmes in the first call for submissions must be submitted between 1 September-31 October, with evaluation being completed by the Agency by 31 January 2013.

The objectives for setting this timetable for the various review processes in the VSMA Framework (acronym for the ex-ante assessment, monitoring, modification and accreditation of recognised programmes) are as follows:

  • To have completed the ex-ante assessment of new programme proposals subsequent to their authorisation by the Inter-university Council of Catalonia's Commission for Academic Planning and Development (Comissió de Programació i Ordenació Acadèmica), and prior to their inclusion for the start of the student admissions process (preinscripció).
  • To distribute the review and evaluation processes in a coherent way throughout the year.

The annual timetable for the ex-ante assessment, monitoring, modification and accreditation of recognised programmes was approved by the AQU Board of Management, which is composed, amongst others, of the vice chancellors (rectors) of the Catalan universities, on 21 November 2011.
