Josep Joan Moreso, new president of AQU Catalunya

Josep Joan Moreso Mateos has been appointed the new president of the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya) by the Executive Council (Govern) of the Catalan government. He replaces Joaquim Prats.

Josep Joan Moreso Mateos (Tortosa, 1959) is Professor of Philosophy of Law at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF/Barcelona). A graduate in Law (Autonomous University of Barcelona/UAB, 1983) with a PhD in Law (Autonomous University of Barcelona, 1988), he was previously Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Girona.

His work has focused mainly on the Theory of Law, with particular attention to the structure and dynamics of legal systems through the application of contributions from deontic logic. His latest research is based on the philosophical fundaments of the Constitution, in which a broad range of different subjects converge, including meta-ethics, the philosophy of language, the theory of legal interpretation and argumentation, political philosophy and democratic theory. In October 2010 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Valparaíso (Chile).

He was rector of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF/Barcelona) from 2005 to 2013. During this period, all degrees at the UPF were adapted in line with EHEA guidelines and enhancement made to the university's profile of research and postgraduate studies, as well as its international orientation.
