Meeting of the ISLAH project in Barcelona

ISLAH

Representatives from the institutions participating in the ISLAH project (Instruments of support of Labour Market and Higher Education) came together in Barcelona to participate in a twin event: a seminar on 4 November on university governance in the Mediterranean Region and the future prospects of systems of higher education, and the meeting on 5 November of the project's Board of Management.

The seminar, which was organised by AlmaLaurea with the cooperation of the Rovira i Virgili University (Barcelona) and the EPUF network (Euromed Permanent University Forum), was a meeting for discussion and brain-storming to strengthen the ties between the countries on the northern and southern sides of the Mediterranean Basin. The seminar saw the participation of Ilan Chet (Deputy Secretary-General for Higher Education for the Union for the Mediterranean/UfM), Marcello Scalisi (Executive Director of the Mediterranean Universities Union), Nuri Mohamed Elbasha (from the Ministry for Higher Education, Libya), Josep Mateu (Board of Trustees, University of Barcelona/UB), Anna Prades (AQU Catalunya), Houdaifa Ameziane (Abdelmalek Essaadi University, Tetouan-Tangiers), Salah Boumaiza (University of Jendouba, Tunisia), Lobna Saidi (Ministry for Higher Education, Tunisia), and Elkefi Rahmani (National Employment and Qualifications Observatory, Tunisia).

Key issues associated with the technical and administrative management of the ISLAH project were addressed at the Board's meeting. For example, decisions were made regarding the place where the survey is to be carried out and the methodology for gathering data.

Coordinated by the Italian consortium AlmaLaurea, the aim of the ISLAH project is to set up two national observatories, one in Morocco and one in Tunisia, with information on graduate destinations and to match this information between higher education and the requirements of the labour market.
