Martí Casadesús, the AQU Catalunya director, attended the inauguration on 14 September of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia/UPC's Diagonal-Besòs Campus, a new development complex for innovation and knowledge located between Barcelona and Sant Adrià del Besòs.

The inaugural ceremony was led by the President of the Government of Catalonia/Generalitat de Catalunya, Carles Puigdemont, together with the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau; the mayor of Sant Adrià del Besòs, Joan Callau; the President of the Diputació de Barcelona (provincial government body for Barcelona), Mercè Conesa; and the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia/UPC, Enric Fossas. The Catalan Minister for Enterprise and Knowledge, Jordi Baiget, and the Secretary for Universities and Research, Arcadi Navarro, also attended.

Courses and activities in the 2016-2017 academic year at the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE), the driving force behind the Campus, encompass approximately 3,500 undergraduate, Master's and PhD students and 400 teaching staff and researchers.
