AQU Catalunya is organising a workshop, "Ways to improve the training of medical students", to be held at the auditorium of the University of Barcelona's Faculty of Medicine and Sciences on 15 March.

The aim of the event is to provide a platform for reflection and debate among the different actors responsible for the training of medical students as well as for proposals for improvement to be put forward. The topics to be covered are as follows:

• The current situation of the undergraduate degree programme in Medicine. This will include a presentation of the data and figures obtained from the accreditation by AQU Catalunya of the degree programme, as well as the results of the employers survey which analyses the process and important factors in the recruitment and appointment of new doctors, their skills, training and facility reception, and university-medical/health care facilty cooperation. A paper by Martí Casadesús, director of AQU Catalunya.
• The skills evaluation test for students on completion of the degree programme in MedicineA paper by Josep Roma, head of Accreditation and Professional Development, Department of Health.
• Transitions in the medical education trajectory. A paper by Michiel Westerman, resident doctor at VU Medical Centre Amsterdam (this presentation will be in English without translation).
• Proposals for enhancing the skills and training of doctors. A round table for reflection and discussion of ways for improvements to be introduced in the training of medical students.
