A meeting of the General Assembly of REACU, the body that coordinates the network of higher education QA agencies in Spain, was hosted by AQU Catalunya on Friday, 9 June. This was the body's first meeting since AQU Catalunya took on REACU's Technical Secretariat.

The meeting, which included representatives from the QA agencies in Andalusia, Aragon, Basque Country, Canary Islands, Castilla y León, Galicia, Madrid, Valencia, ANECA and AQU Catalunya, dealt with the following main points:

• Report on the University Commission on Monitoring and Accreditation Regulation (CURSA), 18 April 2017. In particular, the issue of proposals to amend Royal Decree 1393/2007, 29 October, which regulated all recognised higher education study programmes and awards in Spain was raised, together with the proposed IQAS certification protocol for internal quality assurance systems.
• Endorsement of the agreement on the consideration in assessment of synchronous online teaching.
• Debate on the application of Order SSI/81/2017, 19 January, whereby the Agreement by the National Health System's Human Resources Commission was published, which endorsed the protocol under which basic guidelines were established to safeguard and protect the rights of patients to intimacy from Health Sciences students and resident interns.
• Debate on the accreditation of new joint degrees.  
• Debate on the accreditation of programmes delivered in more than one institution.
• Debate on the accreditation of online programmes.
• A pooling of knowledge and data on access to the integrated information system on universities in Spain (SIIU) within the context of accreditation.
• Debate on the proposed protocol for initial accreditation for institutions (faculties and schools).
• A pooling of ideas on the recognition of teaching staff assessment between QA agencies.
