The beginning of March (07/03/2018) saw the publication in the Official Bulletin of the Spanish State of a resolution by the Secretary General for Universities, which laid down the instructions for the procedure involving the institutional accreditation of both public and private higher education institutions [es].
The resolution seeks to specify and clarify aspects regarding the procedure of institutional accreditation regulated by Royal Decree 420/2015, 29 May, concerning the setting up, recognition, authorisation and accreditation of higher education institutions and their faculties and schools [es].
Institutional accreditation will provide faculties and schools with accreditation for a renewable period of five years for all recognised programmes delivered in the educational facility. As set out in the legislation, in order to acquire institutional accreditation, faculties and schools must comply with two prerequisites:
In Catalonia, it is envisaged that faculties and schools that have applied for and obtained institutional accreditation will, in addition to a quality label of accreditation for each degree programme that is delivered, receive a quality label for institutional accreditation.
