AQU Catalunya took part in the Seventh Congress for Observatories of Graduate Employment Outcomes (7th Workshop of University Employment Observatories), organised by the Universitat Jaume I and CRUE on 15 and 16 February 2018. The event served as a meeting point for experts (universities, QA agencies and other entities) who analyse the transition of graduates from higher education to employment.

At the round table on the transition of graduates from university to employment from the point of view of employers, AQU Catalunya presented the findings of the 2014-2017 Employers Project, which was funded by Obra Social “La Caixa” and had the main aim of understanding the perceptions of employers regarding the employability and skills of recent graduates that they hired. Sandra Nieto, project manager with the Agency, emphasised the importance of the availability of information on the perceptions of both students (offers of employment and job vacancies) and enterprises (demand for labour) for identifying the strengths and weaknesses of a university education and thereby ensure a better match between programmes of study and the needs of the labour market. Methodological improvements to the new edition of the Employers Project (2017-2019), which is currently under way, were also presented, including a broader grouping of sectors covered by individual surveys (from 4 to 16), which will provide for more specific analysis of skills gaps identified in programmes of study associated with each sector.
