Institutional evaluation and programme evaluationTaking into account that, within the frame of reference of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), one of the basic principles of quality assurance is "the interest of students as well as employers and the society more generally in good quality higher education", and that education is the direct result of study programmes and curricula, the main mission of a university quality assurance (QA) agency should be the review and accreditation of these programmes; if education is good, everything goes well and "all's well that ends well".

The place of institutional assessment in the evaluation of higher education and research

Assessment of recognised postgraduate programmes (offered in the 2008-2009 academic year)
On commission by the Directorate General for Universities (DGU), AQU Catalunya has, for the third year running, carried out the ex ante assessment of the academic aspects of proposed Masters programmes offered in the 2008-2009 academic year. The DGU also commissioned AQU Catalunya to evaluate modifications for the 2008-2009 academic year proposed by the universities to recognised Masters programmes that are already running.

Programme or institution – what should we be accrediting?

President ENQAThe landscape of quality assurance across Europe is constantly shifting. Countries try one review or accreditation approach for a few years and then move to another one. Agencies come and go and from time to time a strong external force, such as ENQA's Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area, causes a rethink or re-evaluation of the arrangements currently in place.
