The Agency analyses the profile of university teaching staff

In the five-year period from 2012-2016, AQU Catalunya assessed 2,727 applications for pre-selection assessment reports for tenure-eligible lecturers, 2,772 applications for research accreditation (senior academic staff) and 719 applications for advanced research accreditation (full professorial staff).

For the first time an analysis was made of all applications received during this period to determine the profile of those applying for staff assessment (quality assurance of teaching and teaching staff).

From the analysis it can be seen that:

  • Most applicants are resident in Catalonia for all position assessments. The figures range between 83% for tenure-eligible lecturers to 96% for applicants of advanced research accreditation.

In the case of tenure-eligible lecturers and senior academic staff, approximately 10% of all applicants were living abroad, which is a result of the Serra Húnter Plan.

  • The more senior the academic position, the higher the percentage of applications from males. Among tenure-eligible lecturers there was practically the same number of applications from males and females, whereas around two thirds of all applications for the position of full professor were from males.
  • The same pattern for all academic categories was true for all subject areas:
    • In terms of the number of applications, the highest number was in the Social Sciences and the lowest in Experimental Sciences.
      • During the five-year period from 2012-2016, the highest number of favourable assessments was in Experimental Sciences.
