The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) develops strategies, guidelines and resources to help make the Web accessible to people with disabilities. The AQU Catalunya on-line journal, elButlletí, is developed so that it conforms to the WAI’s standards and level Double-A. In particular:
- Text size is not set and can be adapted by the user using the combination of the ctrl key and the mouse wheel.
- Page structure (XHTML) and style (CSS) are separated: screen readers for the visually impaired and blind read the document logically.
- Content can be understood without the need to see the images: alternative descriptions are always given.
- Information is conveyed not just through colour.
