AQU Catalunya actively participated in the 2019 International Conference on Open, Distance and Networked Education (nextED 2019), which was organised by the Universidade Aberta (Portugal) and held in Lisbon on 27 February.

The conference was attended by foremost experts in online education from both Europe and around the world, including: António Teixeira (Universidade Aberta), Alan Tait (Open University), Terry Anderson (Athabasca University), Miguel Santamaria (UNED), Joao Mattar (ABED and Centro Universitário Internacional Uninter), Steve Wheeler (Learning with Es), Abert Sangrà (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) and Esther Huertas (AQU Catalunya). The session facilitated dialogue and the exchange of experiences between the different actors (academics, researchers, students and quality assurance agencies).

The Conference attracted 150 participants in person, with 400 more connected online. Esther Huertas, senior adviser with AQU Catalunya, presented the latest trends in the quality assurance of online higher education, placing special emphasis on the work being undertaken by ENQA, specific aspects taken into account by AQU Catalunya in the review and quality assurance of online programmes, and the TeSLA project.
