Lluís Torner reappointed chair of AQU's Research Assessment Committee (CAR)

On a proposal by the minister for Enterprise and Knowledge, the Governing Board of AQU Catalunya unanimously reappointed Dr. Lluís Torner as chair of the Agency's Research Assessment Committee for a term of four years.

After completing a degree in Physics at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Dr. Torner was awarded a PhD from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), where he is a full professor. He is the Director of the Institute of Photonic Sciences, which he founded in 2002.

Dr. Torner is the recipient of a number of awards, including the Narcís Monturiol Medal (2009), the Leadership Award of the Optical Society of America (2011) and the Nature Award for Mentoring in Science (2017). He was recently elected as Scholar to the Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts de Barcelona.

He has been the chair since 2014 of AQU Catalunya's Research Assessment Committee, which is in charge of:

  • Issuing accreditation for research and advanced research.
  • Assessing the work of researchers, and the evaluation of individual merits of public service and contract teaching and research staff for merit-based salary bonuses, in accordance with prevailing legislation (articles 55 and 69 of the Spanish Universities Act/LOU).
  • Assessing the work of teaching staff and researchers at private universities in Catalonia.
  • Issuing reports for the recruitment of tenure-eligible lecturers, in accordance with prevailing legislation (Catalan Universities Act/LUC).
