On 12 and 13 September 2018 AQU Catalunya took part in the Seminar titled PRINCIPIO DE CALIDAD: CRES-2018 Y REFORMA LOES /ECUADOR, invited by the Council for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CACES), Ecuador, and the Open University of Catalonia (UOC).

The main aim of the seminar, amongst others, was to establish the key aspects in the building of the system of quality assurance for higher education in Latin America and was attended by experts from different countries. Carme Edo, project manager with the Agency, was invited to talk about "Quality certification in the European Higher Education Area: eLearning". In her presentation, Edo talked about the VSMA framework used by AQU Catalunya which, adapted to the requirements of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), links together the various quality assurance procedures (ex-ante accreditation, monitoring, modification and ex-post accreditation) that take place throughout the life-cycle of recognised degree courses.

Around 300 participants from public bodies and authorities involved in quality assurance in higher education and the university system in Ecuador took part in the seminar.

In order to disseminate quality assurance and review, on 14 September AQU Catalunya took part in a workshop on quality assurance organised by the Ecuadorian Secretariat for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (SENESCYT) at the invitation of the UOC.

The workshop was aimed at coordinators of new distance learning programmes to be introduced in the near future and public service employees at SENESCYT. Carme Edo presented the aspects to be taken into account when designing and reviewing this type of programme in order to strengthen programme quality. Approximately twenty people took part in the workshop, which promotes interaction and dialogue among the participants.
