The ENQA General Assembly in Bucharest

The General Assembly of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) was held in Bucharest on 6-7 October. The event was of particular significance in that it saw the dissolution of ENQA as an association based in Helsinki and its establishment as an association legally established in Brussels and subject to regulation under Belgian law.

The election of a new ENQA Board was held during the Assembly. As part of the process, the representative for AQU Catalunya, Josep Grifoll, the head of Quality Assurance, completed his first three-year term of office and began a second three-year term. The current President of the ENQA Board is the Managing Director of the German Accreditation Council (GAC) and the Board's current members are representatives of the national QA agencies in Austria, Finland, Ireland, United Kingdom, Romania, the Netherlands Flemish Accreditation Organization, and AQU Catalunya and ANECA (Spain).

The General Assembly included a presentation of the results of the Quality Procedures project "Visions for the future" which was coordinated by AQU Catalunya, together with the GAC (Germany), FINHEEC (Finland), HAC (Hungary) and NEAA (Bulgary). The final results of this project, which explores possible future scenarios for quality assurance in higher assurance, will be published shortly and will serve as the basis for the drawing up of a position paper by ENQA addressed to the meeting of the Ministers of Education of the EHEA.
