Josep Anton Ferré has been selected as the new rector of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV), with 53.97% of the weighted voting in the elections held on Tuesday, 13 May. Ferré, who is Professor of Fluid Mechanics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, will replace Francesc Xavier Grau, who has been the URV rector since 2006. The term of office is four years, with the possibility of consecutive reelection for one further term of office.

Josep Anton Ferré was Director of AQU Catalunya from 2009 to the end of 2013. During the time in which he was Director of the Agency, he was instrumental in, amongst other things, the Framework for the validation, monitoring, modification and accreditation of recognised degrees and programmes (VSMA Framework) and the WINDDAT website with indicators on teaching.
