The president and director of AQU Catalunya today received the Secretary for Universities and Research, Francesc Xavier Grau; the Director General for Universities, Victòria Girona; the Director General for Planning, Mercè Chacón; the Secretary General of the Inter-University Council of Catalonia, Lluís Baulenas, and other members of the minister's team, who visited AQU Catalunya in order to find out more about the Agency's activities and discuss the challenges that the Agency has to deal with.

More specifically, discussions revolved around programme and institutional review procedures, teaching staff assessment, research assessment at university department level and the surveys that the Agency coordinates, among other matters.

Prospective challenges that were analysed included:

• The progressive introduction of institutional accreditation procedures.
• Recognition by ANECA's national research assessment body (CNEAI) of the assessment outcomes of contract teaching staff.
• Data integration, transfer and analysis for quality enhancement.
• The Agency's scope and capability to take on new challenges.
