When the time comes to choose a degree programme, many thoughts go through our minds. Some are rational, others are more emotional, some come from ourselves and others are passed on to us by someone close to us. The more rational decisions should be approached based on reliable information that is trustworthy enough to help make the final decision in a calm and collected manner. AQU Catalunya created a website in 2016 with this in mind. It brings together a wide range of information and data on the quality of official degree programmes taught at Catalan universities.
The EUC Estudis website provides the public with information free of charge to get an idea of the quality of the official bachelor's and master's degrees offered by all the Catalan universities. Its main objective is to provide a very intuitive and comprehensible overview of university degree programme quality based on the reports that AQU Catalunya periodically publishes on degrees, as well as on regularly updated indicators. For example, information can be found on the employment outcomes, how many students would repeat their degree programmes, the average gross salary received by graduates, course satisfaction and so on. The website also provides data on access and enrolment, such as the total number of students enrolled broken down by gender, previous year's cut-off marks and the percentage of places filled and other indicators.
EUC Estudis is aimed at both secondary school counselling staff and future university students and their families. This tool is used to analyse the Bachelor's and Master's degrees that result in the awarding of official degrees. This makes them valid throughout Spain and abroad, as they are recognised in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). They have full academic effect and are essential for access to certain categories of civil servants or Public Administration employees, to regulated professions (law, medicine, architecture, industrial engineering, etc.) or to access a PhD degree, which is not possible with unrecognised degrees.
Another key difference with unrecognised degrees (also known as university-specific degrees) is that recognised degrees undergo external quality control by assessment agencies such as AQU Catalunya. Consequently, unrecognised degrees do not appear on the EUC Estudis website because they are not subject to external assessment by any quality agency, and do not have any of the advantages mentioned here in comparison with recognised degrees. For more information about the difference between recognised and unrecognised degrees, you can see more information here which AQU Catalunya has put together.
