A quarterly publication of AQU Catalunya
Josep Joan Moreso · President of AQU Catalunya
Twenty years ago, together with the Catalan public universities ─ through their social councils ─ and private universities, we started a collaboration to undertake three-yearly surveys of people who had graduated three years earlier. We asked them about their employment outcomes and their satisfaction with the university training they received. We have been carrying out this study every three years for twenty years, and it has proved to be of enormous solidity and value, not only because of the image it captures of a specific moment, but also because it allows us to see the trends that have taken place.
As AQU Catalunya celebrates its 25th anniversary, the authors of this article recall the years in which they were Agency president and director. It should be noted that in the first year of the new presidency, in 2008, Dr Javier Bará, who had been appointed in 2006 at the proposal of President Serra Ramoneda, continued as director. Dr Bará stepped down due to retirement and was replaced by the director who authored this article.
AQU Catalunya has carried out a study on the quality of employment outcomes from a gender perspective twenty years after obtaining a bachelor's equivalent degree, with the support of the seven Catalan public universities, the Secretariat for Universities and the Catalan Institute for Women. This is the third study to assess the differences in access to the labour market between women and men, having analysed them three years and ten years after finishing university.
Equality in the labour market is a key pathway to achieving gender equality, building a more equitable society and enhancing human capital. Between 2010 and 2021 AQU Catalunya produced three reports analysing the influence of university degrees on gender differences in the employment outcomes and career paths of university graduates three, ten and twenty years after graduation.
