A quarterly publication of AQU Catalunya
Francesc Xavier Grau, president of AQU Catalunya
The best way to celebrate this anniversary, and with it the achievements of all these years, is to renew the commitment that made them possible: to champion a university system that is demanding, open, equitable and committed to Catalonia’s progress.
We want Catalonia to continue being a safe and reliable space to study, capable of attracting high-quality projects and preventing initiatives that lack sufficient guarantees from operating.
The LOU established the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), but also allowed for regional agencies. It is doubtful whether this would have happened had AQU Catalunya not already been in existence for six years, been a pioneer in Europe and established close links with other European quality assurance agencies.
The thirtieth anniversary of AQU Catalunya invites us to celebrate that commitment and to acknowledge the Agency’s contribution to a quality culture that safeguards academic excellence and broadens the horizons of higher education.
The agency was created with one distinctive feature: it was to be participatory and serve as an instrument for reflection and dialogue between the Administration, the universities and society.
