AQU Catalunya meets with vice-rectors for quality from Catalan universities for the first time in 2026
The Agency’s director, Mercè Gisbert Cervera, presented them with a report outlining the Agency’s most immediate projects, including the implementation of the QUALINS Framework, the development of the ‘Subject Benchmark Statement in Education’, and the ENQA external review visit scheduled for November.
Vice-rectors from Catalan universities met yesterday in person at AQU Catalunya’s headquarters with the Agency’s director, Mercè Gisbert, to be updated on the organisation’s activities in the areas that most directly affect them. After approving the minutes of the previous meeting, Gisbert presented the Director’s Report and then provided information on the implementation of the QUALINS Framework, specifically the pilot evaluation within the verification of programmes. She also informed attendees about the evaluation of teaching assistant professors’ performance and the planning for the completion of the Subject Benchmark Statement in Education, as well as upcoming studies. Gisbert then reminded participants that AQU Catalunya will host the ENQA external review visit at the end of November. She also presented the seminar series Quality and integrity in the age of AI, organised jointly with the Consell Interuniversitari de Catalunya.
The director also outlined the changes introduced in the monitoring procedure for official university programmes, highlighting that it is a continuous improvement process. Monitoring takes place three years after the evaluation report is issued. Regarding the update of the Guide for institutional accreditation of university centres and its procedure, she explained that comments and suggestions raised during the debate session held with the Technical Quality Units at the beginning of 2026 at AQU Catalunya’s headquarters had been taken into account, along with recent regulatory changes. The changes introduced in the monitoring procedure for institutional accreditation of university centres follow the same approach as programme accreditation monitoring.
Gisbert then reported on the status of the revision of the teaching evaluation methodology, noting that the new guide and procedure are expected to be presented before summer 2026, along with a public consultation. The session continued with a discussion led by the director on how universities and university centres are adapting to the requirements established in Royal Decree 905/2025, particularly the requirement that all centres in the Catalan university system must have three years to certify their Internal Quality Assurance Systems.
