AQU Catalunya organises a discussion on institutional accreditation with the Quality Units of Catalan universities
The aim of the session was to reflect on the monitoring and renewal phases of institutional accreditation, as well as to discuss the simplification of verification and modification processes in institutionally accredited centres.
AQU Catalunya organised a session today with the Quality Units of Catalan universities to discuss the institutional accreditation process based on evaluation experiences gathered during 2024 and 2025. The aim of the discussion was to reflect on the monitoring and renewal phases of institutional accreditation, ahead of the review of the current methodology and the validation of the suitability of the evaluation process for its intended purposes, particularly in terms of the continuous improvement of education and the strengthening of an institutional quality culture. The session also addressed the simplification of verification and modification processes in institutionally accredited centres.
The session, which was held in person and lasted three and a half hours, included a welcome address by the Agency’s director, Mercè Gisbert, and an introduction by the head of AQU Catalunya’s Quality Assessment Area, Esther Huertas. This was followed by contributions from the coordinator of the Quality Assessment Area at AQU Catalunya, Albert Basart; the head of the Teaching Quality Office at the UAB, Juan Antonio Alcaide; and the coordinator of the Planning and Quality Office at the URV, Esther Sabaté, who led the parts of the session focused on the assessment and improvement of monitoring and renewal processes in institutional accreditation.
After two hours of group discussions, the director of AQU Catalunya moderated the presentation of each group’s conclusions and brought the session to a close. As a result of this discussion with the Quality Units of universities in the Catalan university system, AQU Catalunya plans to review the guidelines and procedures for institutional accreditation over the coming months.
