ShareAQU Catalunya publishes the Subject Benchmark Statement in Medicine
The document is intended to guide, among others, those responsible for designing, modifying and implementing new curricula within university faculties and schools.

AQU Catalunya has today published the Subject Benchmark Statement in Medicine. Following the six previously developed by the Agency, the document is intended to serve multiple stakeholder groups and purposes. Firstly, it aims to guide university management teams in the design, modification and implementation of new curricula. Secondly, it is also intended to support those responsible for the verification, monitoring, modification and accreditation of degree programmes within quality assurance agencies.
The Subject Benchmark Statement in Medicine has been developed in a context shaped by the approval, last year, of the Framework for the Improvement of Institutional Quality in the Catalan University System (QUALINS Framework), which envisages the use of subject benchmark statements to facilitate programme design and evaluation. Developed in accordance with the Catalan Qualifications Framework for Higher Education for the Master's Degree Level, the statement translates these general guidelines into the specific context of the degree in Medicine. It also incorporates common elements and practices that should be considered when designing and delivering degree programmes in this field.
Subject Benchmark Statements describe what gives a discipline or field of knowledge its coherence and identity. To this end, they outline the nature and characteristics of academic qualifications within that field and define what can be expected from graduates upon completion of their studies. They should not, under any circumstances, be regarded as prescriptive documents, as they are not intended to establish a common curriculum across all higher education institutions or to prescribe particular approaches to teaching, learning or assessment.
