AQU Catalunya’s Appeals Commission holds its first meeting of 2026
At the meeting, which took place on 21 January, COAPEL resolved 35 appeals lodged by university lecturers.
The Appeals Commission of AQU Catalunya (COAPEL) met online on 21 January. The meeting, which was the first of 2026, aimed to resolve a total of 35 appeals from the first call for the evaluation of research merits of teaching and research staff at public universities in Catalonia for the allocation of additional supplements for research merits.
After approving the minutes of the previous meeting, the Commission resolved these appeals, lodged by university lecturers. The majority of appeals in this call corresponded to the field of social sciences, with a total of 20. The second field with the highest number of appeals was humanities, with 7 appeals submitted. The third field with the highest number of appeals was engineering and architecture, with a total of 6. The meeting also served to welcome the most recent member to join the Commission, Dr Sara Rovira-Esteva.
The Commission, chaired by Professor Neus Vidal Martínez of the Universitat de Barcelona, is the body of AQU Catalunya responsible for resolving appeals lodged against decisions of the Research Evaluation Commission and of the other evaluation, certification and accreditation commissions. Its decisions exhaust administrative remedies. During 2025, COAPEL resolved a total of 206 appeals and 4 motions for reconsideration lodged by university teaching staff.
