AQU Catalunya’s Institutional and Programme Assessment Committee (CAIP) held its third meeting of 2026 at the Agency’s headquarters. The session began with the introduction of Paula Gelpí, a student at Ramon Llull University, as the committee’s new student member. The CAIP then approved the agenda and the minutes of the previous meeting and heard the report of the committee’s chair, Mercè Gisbert, who highlighted the main developments in which AQU Catalunya is currently involved.
Firstly, the committee was informed about the history of the verification and modification processes carried out by AQU Catalunya. The chair then focused on the forthcoming analysis regarding the future certification of the design and implementation of Internal Quality Assurance Systems (IQAS) in institutions within the Catalan university system (SUC), in accordance with the second transitional provision of Royal Decree 905/2025. Gisbert concluded her report by addressing thematic quality labels and Catalan higher education institutions operating abroad.
Following the chair’s report, the next agenda item was the approval of the amendments introduced to the Guide for the Institutional Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions. The update responds to recent regulatory changes and incorporates contributions gathered during the discussion workshop held in February with the universities’ Technical Quality Units.
The committee then approved several amendments to the procedure for the institutional accreditation of higher education institutions. Among the main changes are the incorporation of information relating to initial institutional accreditation and its link with the institutional accreditation follow-up procedure. The next agenda item focused on updating the criteria for IQAS certification, which the committee approved. Finally, the CAIP received information on thematic reports and held a discussion on the online assessment process.
The CAIP is AQU Catalunya’s committee responsible for ensuring the proper application of the full range of quality assurance instruments and processes carried out by the Agency in relation to academic programmes and institutions. Working through specialised committees, the CAIP’s functions include the assessment of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and governance within the university system; the evaluation, certification, audit and accreditation of the quality of universities, their research and innovation centres, and higher education institutions; and the promotion of evaluation and comparison of quality criteria in accordance with international standards, particularly in the areas of teaching, research and knowledge transfer.
