EQAR registration renewed
AQU Catalunya's registration on EQAR, the official register of quality assurance agencies, has been renewed until June 2027, after the Agency successfully passed the international external assessment process of compliance with the ESG in 2022.
Every five years, the over 60 external quality assurance agencies operating in Europe must pass an international external assessment of compliance with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) to guarantee their registration on the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). This allows their assessments to be recognised at European level, making recognition and mobility easier for students and university teaching staff in Europe.
As for the agencies that operate in Spain, being registered on EQAR is a legal requirement for their carrying out external quality assessment functions in their autonomous community.
AQU Catalunya was one of the first three agencies to register on EQAR in 2008 and has remained continuously on the register. EQAR recently notified AQU Catalunya that its registration would be renewed until 30 June 2027 following its successful completion of the international external assessment process in 2022, which the Agency innovatively passed in the form of a targeted review, a reduced assessment afforded to those agencies that have passed this process twice in a row.
In light of the approval, EQAR issued the document "Approval of the Application by Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU) for Renewal of Inclusion on the Register".
The president and director of AQU Catalunya expressed their extreme satisfaction with the result obtained, not only in terms of maintaining registration but also because in the words of the EQAR Committee: "AQU therefore continues to comply substantially with the ESG as a whole".
This is very good news for both the Agency and the Catalan Higher Education System, since all the assessments carried out by AQU Catalunya can be consulted at European level in the EQAR Database of External Quality Assurance Results for recognition and approval processes.
