"Engineering and Data Science", new discipline in the Programme catalogue
We are updating our Programme catalogue, a system of hierarchical classification of university programmes and higher degrees, to include the new Engineering and Data Science discipline, which is part of the field of Engineering and more specifically, the subfield of Computer Science.

With the validation of the Institutional and Programme Review Commission (CAIP) specific assessment commissions for Sciences and Engineering and Architecture, we have added “Engineering and Data Science” to our Programme catalogue, to group together all the degree programmes between Statistics and Computer Science. This is a sector with clear prospects and the degree programmes that are incorporated are gradually becoming more significant in the academic and professional sphere. The inclusion of this discipline in the catalogue will enable the monitoring and analysis of degree programmes grouped in it.
The AQU Catalunya Programme catalogue was created in 2016, and is structured on four grouping levels, from broadest to narrowest: field, extended subfield, detailed subfield and discipline. The catalogue has four main functions:
- It facilitates traceability by providing back data on learning outcomes at both programme and discipline level. A change in the name of a degree (and official code number) does not imply a change in the catalogue code number. For example, a post-Bologna degree in Law has the same catalogue code number as a pre-Bologna degree in Law.
- It groups similar degree programmes, enabling the indicators of a programme to be easily compared with those of similar programmes (benchmarks).
- It provides results synthesised according to different levels (subfield, expanded subfield, etc.).
- It provides for multilevel analysis (at bachelor, master's and doctorate level) according to subject area and subject. For example, in the case of Economics, according to the different educational levels (bachelor, master's and doctorate).
