Minister for Research and Universities chairs inauguration of Francesc Xavier Grau as president of AQU Catalunya
Today the inauguration of the president of AQU Catalunya Research took place, attended by the Minister for Research and Universities, Joaquim Nadal; the Director General for Universities, Victòria Girona; the incoming president of AQU Catalunya, Francesc Xavier Grau; the outgoing president Josep Joan Moreso, and the director of AQU Catalunya, Jaume Valls.

The recently appointed president of AQU Catalunya, Francesc Xavier Grau, took office today in a ceremony attended by AQU Catalunya staff, along with the Director General for Universities, Victòria Girona, and the Minister for Research and Universities, Joaquim Nadal, who gave the opening and closing addresses respectively.
During the ceremony a video was shown as a farewell to the outgoing president, which highlighted the milestones reached during his term of office. Josep Joan Moreso offered words of thanks and remembrance for the people who worked alongside him over his nine years as president of AQU Catalunya and said that leaving the AQU presidency in the hands of Professor Francesc Xavier Grau was “the best thing that could happen because he knows the Catalan higher education system better than anyone”.
For his part, incoming president Francesc Xavier Grau, focused on the new challenges facing AQU Catalunya and “the essential role it will have to play in the roll-out of the Catalan Law on Science passed just yesterday by Parliament”.
Finally, Minister for Research and Universities, Joaquim Nadal, underlined the legacy of the outgoing president, congratulated the incoming president and urged AQU Catalunya to maintain the same standard of excellence achieved so far in numerous international reviews.
The president of AQU Catalunya is the institutional representative of the Agency and is appointed for a renewable four-year term.
