Since 2018, AQU Catalunya has accredited 56 university institutions
This represents about 30% of the centres in Catalonia, which account for 40% of the official university degrees taught at Catalan universities.

Institutional accreditation is a process that verifies that the centre effectively monitors the quality of the university education it offers, and that the results are as should be expected, both in the disciplinary fields and in the educational levels of the degrees offered. Institutionally accredited centres are a guarantee of the quality of the training they offer, which falls within the remit of their internal quality assurance system.
AQU Catalunya has accredited a total of 56 institutions since 2018. This total number includes 49 schools and faculties and 7 departments; 2023 was the year that AQU Catalunya accredited the highest number of institutions, - 18 in all - two of which were departments. The 56 institutions that passed the AQU Catalunya institutional accreditation process represent 30% of those currently active in the Catalan Higher Education System, and they teach 40% of the official degrees currently available in Catalonia.

In this first stage of institutional accreditation, from 2018 to the present, those centres that have already had their internal quality assurance system certified by AQU Catalunya have been accredited for a period of six years, and they provide 50% of the accredited degrees. Following this initial stage, AQU Catalunya has launched a second stage in which the centres that obtained institutional accreditation six years ago must now go through an accreditation renewal process that includes an external visit an assessment committee. The Faculty of Social Education and Social Work Pere Tarrés at the Ramon Llull University is the first centre to undergo the process of renewing institutional accreditation based on the guide for the institutional accreditation of university centres.
