Modification of degree programmes
Universities wishing to introduce changes to their official degree programmes can do so through the modification process. The purpose of this process is to approve changes before they are implemented. There are three types of modifications, though only the first two are assessed in the modification process:
- Substantial modifications which improve the degree programme and which were also identified as a result of follow-up processes or requests made in previous assessment processes, but which exceed the scope of non-substantial modifications, as they alter elements of the structure, nature and/or goals of the degree programme or other aspects of the programme description.
- Substantial modifications entailing revalidation: when a degree programme wants to introduce changes that significantly affect the structure, nature and/or goals of the validated degree programme, the request cannot be made through the modification process. These changes can only be implemented by applying for the validation of a new degree and discontinuing the current one.
- Non-substantial modifications that improve the degree programme, identified following the follow-up process carried out by each centre at the regular intervals established in its internal quality assurance system.
