EQAR (European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education) was launched in March 2008 by the E4 Group organisations within the framework of the Bologna process. The E4 Group is composed of ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education), ESU (European Students' Union), EUA (European University Association) and EURASHE (European Association of Institutions in Higher Education). EQAR’s mission is to promote the ESG through increased transparency in quality assurance.
The EQAR register provides users with clear and reliable information and a list of quality assurance agencies considered to be solvent, trustworthy and with good credibility that operate in the EHEA. The listed agencies have demonstrated in an external review by independent experts that they comply substantially with the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the EHEA (ESG).
AQU Catalunya was one of the first three agencies to be listed with EQAR subsequent to it successfully undergoing an international external review coordinated by ENQA.
AQU Catalunya has been a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) since its inception in 2000. The Catalan Agency currently has one representative on the ENQA Board, the executive body that coordinates the European Association of QA agencies. On behalf of ENQA, the AQU's representative is also on the European Quality Assurance Forum (EQAF) Steering Comittee.
The International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) is an international association with over 200 organisations active in the theory and practice of quality assurance in higher education, the majority of them QA agencies. AQU Catalunya has been a member of INQAAHE since 1998. Its role as Secretariat of the network, which it has hosted since October 2013, has just been renewed and extended until 30 June 2019.
The INQAAHE Secretariat is hosted by an INQAAHE full member agency. The typical tasks for the Secretariat are maintaining the members database, handling Board matters, organizing events, insuring access to current information on the website and other types of publications, handling financial matters, etc.
