2020 Appeals Committee Annual Report published
The Chair of the Appeals Committee submitted the report to the Agency's Governing Council to give account of the activity carried out during the 2020 financial year
The Annual Report by the Chair of the Appeals Committee gives account of the Committee's activities during the year to the Governing Council. This Committee is responsible for resolving appeals filed against the rulings of the Research Assessment Committee and other AQU Catalunya assessment and certification committees. It is also responsible for issuing review reports on other decisions issued by the committees when this is established in the assessment, certification and accreditation processes.
During 2020, the Appeals Committee renewed and expanded its membership and had 54 external reviewers.
With regard to appeals in teaching staff assessment processes, the Committee received 153 appeals, 20% fewer than in the previous period, with 24% of applications receiving unfavourable assessment. Of all appeals lodged, the Committee upheld 25%, which represents 6% of appeals upheld compared to the total assessed unfavourably. By figure, pre-selection reports for tenure-eligible lecturers received the most appeals, 57 altogether, and by area of knowledge the Social Sciences received the most (63).
Finally, in relation to the review reports and appeals regarding degrees issues in 2020, three requests for review were received in the verification process against negative verification by the Council of Universities. Two of them received favourable reports, thereby ratifying previous favourable assessments by an AQU Catalunya specific committee, and one was dismissed, also ratifying the previous unfavourable decision.
