AQU Catalunya Launches a Public Consultation on the Guide and Procedure for Certifying the Evaluation of Teaching Activity
Contributions on these two documents may be submitted until 15 July. Together, they establish the new framework for certifying teaching evaluation processes at Catalan universities.
AQU Catalunya has launched a public consultation on the new Guide for the Certification of the Teaching Activity Evaluation Process and the Certification, Monitoring and Renewal Procedure. These documents constitute the new reference framework for the certification of teaching evaluation processes at Catalan universities and aim to strengthen teaching quality, improve process transparency, and support the professional development of academic staff.
The guide proposes a structured model to assist institutions in implementing the elements subject to external evaluation, integrated within their internal quality assurance systems and aligned with institutional staff policies. From this perspective, the guide adopts a progressive certification approach based on two levels: basic and advanced.
Basic certification establishes the essential requirements needed to guarantee the minimum quality of the teaching evaluation process and to ensure institutional consistency, reliability of evidence, and transparency. It incorporates the agreements adopted by the University Teaching Policy Committee of the Inter-University Council of Catalonia, as well as some of the contributions developed within the Margalida Comas programme. Advanced certification, by contrast, incorporates elements that reflect a more mature system, focusing on academic staff development, institutional impact, and the consolidation of a culture of teaching excellence. The procedure sets out the different stages, stakeholders and supporting elements associated with the guide.
As was previously done with the new research accreditation criteria for associate and full professors, the Agency aims to gather contributions to enrich the documents and better align them with the concerns and expectations of the Catalan university system before their final approval. University academic staff interested in contributing may request the documents from their institution, to which AQU Catalunya has already distributed them. Contributions may be submitted to direccio@aqu.cat until 15 July. The bodies responsible for the documents will review all proposals with the aim of formally approving them during the final quarter of 2026.
