AQU Catalunya extends the deadline for the renewal of the accreditation of teaching evaluation manuals
The extension, effective as of today, is the result of the agreements of the Specific Commission for the Evaluation of Teaching and Management Activity and of the Research Evaluation Commission, and it retroactively affects both public and private universities in the Catalan university system.
The Diari Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya has today published the resolutions making public the agreements of the Specific Commission for the Evaluation of Teaching and Management Activity and of the Research Evaluation Commission of the Agency for the Quality of the Catalan University System, which extend the deadline for the renewal of the accreditation of teaching evaluation manuals of the seven public universities and two private universities in Catalonia. The agreements, which take effect today, extend the validity of the accreditation renewal of the teaching evaluation process contained in the teaching evaluation manuals from 5 to 6 years.
This change is primarily due to the fact that the University Teaching Policy Commission of the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia agreed, in its session on March 5, 2025, that universities would modify their instruments for evaluating teaching activity, among other things, to respond to the new regulatory context for faculty accreditation regarding the evaluation of their teaching activity. These revisions will facilitate the adjustment of evaluations of the teaching activity of university teaching and research staff to provide a broader scope than that of the additional pay supplement for individual teaching merits.
Secondly, the extension aligns the validity periods to a 6-year period for all accreditation processes of the Agency. These processes include the accreditation of official degrees, institutional accreditation, and other accreditation instruments, as well as the accreditation of teaching evaluation processes contained in the teaching evaluation manuals of Catalan universities.
Thirdly, the Specific Commission for the Evaluation of Teaching and Management Activity is reviewing the new teaching methodology that will consolidate this 6-year term in accreditations. According to this modification, the renewal of the accreditation of the teaching evaluation process contained in the teaching evaluation manuals of all Catalan universities is valid for a 6-year period. In this way, the validity of the accreditation is aligned with the validity of the DOCENTIA program accreditations.
