AQU Catalunya meets for the second time in 2026 with the Quality Units of Catalan universities
The Agency’s Director, Mercè Gisbert Cervera, presented her report outlining the Agency’s most immediate projects, including the update of the institutional accreditation guide and the planning of the certification of internal quality assurance systems.
The Quality Units of Catalan universities met online today with the Director of AQU Catalunya, Mercè Gisbert, to receive updates on the Agency’s activities in the areas that most directly affect them. After approving the minutes of the previous meeting, Gisbert presented the Director’s Report, beginning with an update on the timetable for the new Guide for Institutional Accreditation and its associated procedure. As Gisbert explained, both the guide and the procedure will apply to the 2027 call. Among other developments, the guide introduces three levels for assessing standards: achieved; achieved with conditions; and not achieved.
The second item in the Director’s Report focused on planning the certification of Internal Quality Assurance Systems (IQAS). Gisbert informed the Quality Units that the Quality Assessment Area will contact universities after the summer to learn about the situation at each institution and gain an overall picture of the state of the Catalan university system (SUC). Once the specific needs of each case have been identified, AQU Catalunya’s objective is to establish a joint strategy.
Before the open discussion session, and outside the scope of the Director’s Report, the meeting also provided an opportunity to debate degree programme verification and modification processes. Among other issues, participants raised questions such as: “How is the verification process currently responding to innovative proposals within the SUC?” and “To what extent can training initiatives help improve these processes?”
