AQU Catalunya publishes a report on the CAR's activities during 2023
The Research Assessment Commission (CAR) is in charge of issuing accreditation of research and advanced research and evaluating the activity developed by researchers, among other functions.

This April, AQU Catalunya published the report detailing all the activities carried out by the Research Assessment Commission (CAR)
throughout 2023. This document was drawn up by the AQU Catalunya Faculty Review Department to report to the AQU Catalunya Governing Board on the activities of the Research Assessment Commission (CAR) over the past year.
The most significant development in 2023 was the 45% increase in the number of applications for accreditation received. In addition, change processes have also been set in motion regarding teaching staff assessment, mainly as a consequence of the approval of the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), which introduces significant changes in the assessment programme for tenured teaching staff.
Moreover, these tasks have coincided with the renewal of the CAR, both as regards the presidency and as regards some of its members. Dr. Lluís Torner finished his term as president of the commission and Dr. Maria Pau Ginebra was appointed as the new president.
Regarding dissemination, the publication of the Analysis of the age of applicants for teacher accreditation report, which uses well-founded descriptive indicators to diagnose whether the age of applicants for teaching staff accreditation is higher than expected, should be highlighted.
The CAR has also produced an internal report on the application of the protocol for assessing interdisciplinary dossiers between 2018 and 2023.
Strengthening Catalan
As part of the Plan to strengthen the Catalan language in the Catalan Higher Education System and research system, of which it has been a member, the CAR has worked to strengthen Catalan in the academic and research world through the Scientific and scholarly journals of Catalonia report and the Incorporation of the effects of relevance and impact of scientific publications in Catalan in the concept of quality report.
Finally, the CAR has also approved the criteria and procedure for the assessment of research activity (six-year research periods) for 2024; it has monitored the "singular areas" established by the CAR for Education and for Nursing; reviewed the evaluation criteria applied by the Specific commission for Engineering and Architecture in the files of those researchers whose research is carried out within large scientific facilities, and made the necessary adaptations to modify the system for submitting applications so that the calls for accreditation of associate professors and full professors are permanently open, abandoning the system of two calls per year.
