AQU Catalunya publishes the 2022 CAIP report
Last year the Institutional and Programme Review Commission (CAIP) received 51 proposals for validation, 182 proposals for modification, 37 for monitoring and 97 for accreditation. It also worked on new challenges such as the splitting of the specific commission for the field of Social and Legal Sciences or the publication of a guide for validation and modification of bachelor's and master's degrees adapted to Royal Decree 822/2021.

AQU Catalunya has just published the 2022 report of the Institutional and Programme Review Commission (CAIP), which is the permanent commission for the assessment, certification and accreditation of the institutional quality of higher education institutions. The report, which constitutes the main instrument for rendering accounts before the AQU Catalunya Governing Board on the actions carried out, indicates the activities carried out associated with the Framework for the validation, monitoring, modification and accreditation of recognised university degrees (MVSMA), as well as certification of the implementation of internal quality assurance systems and institutional accreditation.
In 2022, Catalan universities submitted 51 proposals to the CAIP validation process: 23 bachelor's degrees and 28 master's degrees. Of these, 86% were issued a favourable assessment report. With regard to requests to modify degree programmes offered, 182 proposals were received in 2022 to be implemented in the 2022-2023 academic year: 81 bachelor's degrees, 77 master's degrees and 24 doctoral degrees. All modification requests were assessed favourably. Also in 2022, 37 degrees were monitored (33 degrees from the university system and 4 from higher arts education). The number of monitoring actions carried out decreased by approximately 30% compared to previous years (2020 and 2021). Finally, during the second half of 2022, external visits were once again conducted in person. In total, 89 external visits were organised to assess the performance of 160 degree programmes. Eighty-two bachelor's degrees, 18 master's degrees (including one in arts education) and 60 doctoral degree programmes were visited. A total of 17% of the accredited degree programmes received a "progressing towards excellence" rating and 7% were accredited with conditions.
In addition, the CAIP worked on splitting the specific commission for the Social and Legal Sciences, adapting assessment methodologies to RD 822/2021 and RD 640/2021, and helping to define the Standards and Criteria for the Quality Assessment of University Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. The adaptation of the learning outcomes of the professional competencies of the university master's degree programme in Legal Practice and the assessment of centres that offer foreign degree programmes in Catalonia were other challenges that CAIP tackled throughout 2022.
This activity report, prepared by the AQU Catalunya Quality Assurance Department, verifies that the CAIP acts in accordance with the functions granted it by the agreement creating the Governing Board and those established by the Agency Statutes, in accordance with the provisions of Law 15/2015, of 21 July. In this regard, the CAIP ensures the correct application of the set of quality assurance instruments and processes carried out at the institutional level by AQU Catalunya, and is responsible for promoting and improving the agency, while facilitating cooperation and exchange with other institutions at the national and international level.
