AQU Catalunya has updated its Guide to the Ex ante Accreditation of Joint Programmes (European Approach), initially published in 2022. The new guide, now called the Guide to the acreditation of joint programmes using the European Approach, has been restructured to follow the order of the dimensions set out in the agreement adopted by the Ministers responsible for higher education in Europe (2015). In addition, it uses the ImpEA project as a reference.
This restructuring of the guide follows the approval of Royal Decree 822/2021, which expressly recognises the application of this methodology and eliminates the bureaucratic barriers imposed by the previous regulations, which implied having to pass a degree assessment process following the dimensions of the relevant state’s validation and accreditation programmes. The outcome of the implementation of this new normative framework is a guide that allows for easy recognition through the application of the European Approach Standards by both Agencies and institutions.
In conjunction with the new guide and in line with the Agency’s recent practice of separating the contents of the assessments into two different publications, AQU Catalunya has also published a procedure. The procedure, called Procedure for the European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes, aims to assist institutions offering joint degrees at each of the different stages of degree implementation. The application of the European Approach is useful for the external evaluation of new and existing joint international inter-university degree programmes.
