On Wednesday, the Director of AQU Catalunya, Jaume Valls Pasola, welcomed a delegation of three public representatives from Uruguay, who had expressed an interest in learning first-hand about the experience of the Catalan Agency during their visit to Spain. The delegation had been interested in learning about AQU Catalunya's practices and background because since January of this year the Latin American country has been launching the National Institute for Accreditation and Evaluation of Tertiary Education (INAEET), a public body that will have to fulfil functions in Uruguay similar to those of AQU Catalunya here.
The three professionals received by Valls at AQU Catalunya are Carlos A. Romero Rostagno, head of the Higher Education Department of the National Directorate of Education; Carla Giovanna Brufau Bachín, legal advisor of the department, and Gonzalo Javier Oleggini Leis, coordinator of the Office of Recognition and Validation of the Higher Education Department. The meeting, which was also attended by the head of the Internationalisation and Knowledge Generation Department, Anna Prades, took place due to the "great interest" of the visitors in "holding a meeting to exchange best practices regarding quality assessment" of higher education and to "understand the perspective [of the Agency] regarding the coordination between the institutions that make up the system of quality assessment of higher education in Spain". The visit took place through the mediation of the Carolina Foundation, which has been active since 2000 and aims to promote cultural relations and cooperation in educational and scientific matters between Spain and Latin American countries.
