Publication of AQU Catalunya's programme catalogue
The catalogue is a classification system for degree programmes based on disciplinary proximity. The purpose is to obtain indicators for each defined level of aggregation. In the case of AQU Catalunya there are four levels:
The AQU Catalunya catalogue, which was approved in 2016 and is revised on an annual basis, is based on an earlier classification by the Agency and is comparable to other international classification systems, including ISCED (UNESCO), the FOS codes (OECD), the JACS codes (UK), and two Australian classification systems (ANZRS and ASCED).
The catalogue enables multilevel analysis for diagnoses that form the basis for the design of policies dealing with admission, academic transition, assessment and improvement, contract programmes, transition to employment, etc. More specifically, the catalogue allows for:
- Indicators to be obtained in different aggregation units, which in turn are used to fulfil the different needs of users, which include prospective students, programme managers, university officials, research, government authorities, etc.
- Traceability in the lifecycle of degree programmes (for example, to obtain time series for pre-Bologna degree programmes).
- Indicators to be obtained within the same subject, for example in the case of Law for different educational levels (first degree, Master's and doctorate).
- Improved consistency in the application of indicators to groups of degree programmes.
Analysis in the studies and surveys carried out by AQU Catalunya relies on the application of this catalogue. For example, the EUC reports portal presents performance reports from the graduate employment outcomes surveys that are aggregated at degree course level, whereas doctoral degrees are aggregated according to field of knowledge.
