AQU Catalunya has published today its report on Employability and University Education in the Field of Education. The primary objective of the report is to provide a cross-sectional review of the employability of recent graduates in Early Childhood and Primary Education and the University Master’s Degree in Teacher Training in Secondary and Upper Secondary School Education, Vocational Training and Language Education. To this end, it analyses data on the supply and demand for places and academic performance, employment outcomes, satisfaction with the degree obtained and the opinions of educational institutions on the university training of the teachers they hire from the two aforementioned degree programmes.
The fieldwork for the report now being published was carried out in the post-pandemic scenario of 2022, a reality that had evident impact on teaching activity. In total, the study managed to collect responses from 421 schools. In regard to the preparation of the study, it should also be noted that a new section has been added, focusing on which professional skills have been better prepared and which skills students on work placements still need to improve.
The report forms part of the sector-specific analyses carried out by AQU Catalunya as part of the third edition of the Employers project, which aims to provide evidence to help decision-makers in the political and academic spheres improve higher education from the perspective of employability. Moreover, this knowledge also has the potential to support current and future students in making informed decisions about their future career paths.
The analyses of the employability profiles of graduates from the Catalan Higher Education system carried out by AQU Catalunya are linked to the accountability required of a university system funded with public money. Quality assurance agencies are well-positioned to provide the university community with resources that enable the assessment of higher education quality and impact from an employability perspective.
The report and key findings are available on the study’s website.
