IQAS Certification in the Catalan university system 2016-2021 (2022)
As a transition to institutional accreditation, in 2016 AQU Catalunya began the Internal Quality Assurance Systems Certification (IQAS) programme in Catalan universities.
The first two sections of the report explain the context and the assessment process carried out by AQU Catalunya, and then the results of the assessment of the cross-cutting elements in the IQAS of the universities and their certification processes are analysed. The report also includes good practices and areas for improvement identified by the dimensions assessed in each of the two processes.
The main conclusions of the report are that:
- Dimensions 2 “Design, review and improvement of training programmes” and 3 “Teaching-learning and support for students” are the ones that present the best results – fruit of the work done by universities in the framework of the official degree programme assessment processes.
- Dimension 1 “IQAS review and improvement” presented the greatest number of requirements and areas for improvement, particularly with regard to the chain of responsibility and the participation of stakeholders, the gathering of information, and the revision and improvement of the IQAS, in particular indicators.
The report also highlights the strong progress of the Catalan university system in the implementation of the IQAS, with the consequent demonstration of commitment to quality and continuous improvement, and shows that 2021 has been the year of consolidation of the IQAS certification process in Catalonia.
