Modification
Proposals for changes to existing recognised degree programmes are subject to a prior assessment process called modification.
Types of modification
Depending on the nature and magnitude of the proposed changes, the modifications are classified into two types:
- Non-substantial modifications: they are minor changes that improve the degree programme and are the result of the monitoring that each centre carries out with the periodicity established in its Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS).
- Substantial modifications: are those changes that improve the degree programme and that are also the result of monitoring or requirements derived from previous assessment processes, but that exceed the scope of the non-substantial modification, since they alter elements of the structure, nature and/or the objectives of the degree programme or other aspects of the report.
Presentation of proposals and assessment
The proposal presentation and assessment process follows that established in the validation (ex-ante accreditation) process, both in terms of methodology and assessment bodies.
Deadlines for the submission of applications
AQU Catalunya has established two periods for submitting applications:
1st period
For substantial modifications that are intended to be implemented in the following academic year.
- From 15 October to 15 January
2nd period (extraordinary)
For less relevant modifications that must be implemented in the following academic year, but that do not affect the annual course plan (changes in subjects, changes of name, etc.). This call does not assess the most complex modifications, as they must be submitted during the first period.
- From 1 February to 31 March
The same degree programme can only be modified in one of the two calls.
Non-substantial modifications in non-institutionally accredited centres (NEW)
In this case, the universities will have to submit a non-substantial modification request to AQU Catalunya, via an attachment on the Catalan Administrations Extranet, the EACAT (sent to AQU Catalunya), together with a favourable report from its IQAS, guaranteeing that there are no changes in the nature, objectives or fundamental characteristics of the degree programme and that the criteria established in the applicable AQU Catalunya guide have been followed.
Next, AQU Catalunya will issue a resolution of acceptance of the non-substantial modification by the chair of the Institutional and Programme Review Commission, to whom this function is delegated.
