The Ministry of Research and Universities (DRU) of the Government of Catalonia has published the report Dual training in the Catalan Higher Education System, which was prepared by the working group for the promotion and development of dual training in the Catalan Higher Education System (SUC). This team, set up as part of the board of the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia (CIC) in 2021, is made up of representatives of the Directorate General of Universities and the CIC, the twelve Catalan universities, AQU Catalunya and Ministry of Business and Labour. Margarita Moltó, PhD from the University of Lleida, was the coordinator.
The report establishes the dual training model in Catalonia through a clear strategy by the Government of Catalonia to promote it in universities. It represents the final document on the activities carried out by the aforementioned working group, whose main objective was to promote dual training in official university studies at Bachelor’s and Master’s level. In addition, the group was also tasked with developing and implementing policies to promote higher level dual training based on the specific context and to establish a university-business communication mechanism to bring the needs of the industrial fabric and the productive fabric characteristic of each territory closer to the needs of professional profiles in the curricula, as is usual in the context of the dual university.
Dual training is recognised in Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees as a dual mention. It is an educational project that is carried out in the university centre and in the corresponding collaborating entity (company, organisation, institution or administration, as the case may be) in a complementary manner. Off-site training is supervised and coordinated by the responsible university centre so as to adapt the students’ comprehensive learning and training to improve their employability. The training activity at the university centre alternates with the work activity at the collaborating entity through a contract for dual university training.
