AQU Catalunya takes part in the technical workshop “Internal and External Quality Assurance in Lifelong Learning: Future Challenges and Good Practices”
The event, organised by the Red Universitaria de Estudios de Postgrado y Educación Permanente, took place at the Monastery of Nuestra Señora del Prado in Valladolid.
AQU Catalunya took part last week in the technical workshop Internal and External Quality Assurance in Lifelong Learning: Future Challenges and Good Practices. Carme Edo, project manager in the Quality Evaluation Area of AQU Catalunya, delivered the presentation The integration of quality assurance of microcredentials into existing quality frameworks, which encompasses microcredentials as well as lifelong learning as a whole. Her presentation first focused on the international context in the field of microcredentials and subsequently explained what short-duration programmes are exactly, designed on the basis of the needs evidenced by the labour market.
Edo’s presentation then delved into Royal Decree 822/2021 of 28 September, which establishes, among other aspects, the organisation of lifelong learning programmes and the quality assurance procedure. Before reaching the conclusions, Edo explained AQU Catalunya’s strategy for the evaluation of lifelong learning.
In the conclusions, the Agency’s representative at the event pointed out the opportunity offered by the use of existing and consolidated evaluation structures and processes that can be adapted to be extended to lifelong learning, as well as the proximity between agencies and universities, which makes it possible to design an agile, flexible and sustainable framework for lifelong learning. Finally, she concluded the presentation by highlighting that the challenge in the design and evaluation of a quality assurance system for lifelong learning is to find the balance between flexibility, a culture of continuous improvement and robust processes.
