Gender parity among AQU Catalunya’s experts
Of the 892 experts currently working with AQU Catalunya to evaluate institutions, degree programmes and teaching staff, 47% are female.

With an almost equal number of male and female experts collaborating in its assessments, AQU Catalunya can lay claim to being a fully gender-balanced agency. Currently, we collaborate with 415 women and 477 men, which means that women account for 47% of our experts.
Women are also equally represented across the various areas of expertise, with all commissions having at least 40% female representation. The fields of knowledge in which women are most represented are Medical and Health Sciences, where the proportion of women is 56%. This is followed by Humanities, with 51%, and Life Sciences, with 50%. In Engineering and Architecture, 46% of the experts are female; in Science, they represent 44%, and in Social Sciences, 42%.
To assist with the task of assessing institutions, degree programs, and teaching staff, AQU Catalunya engages both individuals of recognised prestige in academic and professional fields and students. The process for selecting these experts adheres to strict criteria that ensure independence, objectivity, and the avoidance of conflicts of interest. The Agency’s gender parity aligns with AQU Catalunya’s 2024-2027 Equality Plan, which was approved by the Governing Board in 2023 and published in January 2024. Among other objectives, this document requires the Agency to “achieve equal representation and participation”. The Agency’s Equality Plan complies with the requirements of Royal Decree-Law 6/2019, of 1 March, on urgent measures to guarantee equal treatment and opportunities between women and men in work and employment; and Law 9/2022, of 21 December, on science.
